Well what an absolutely wonderful performance the children gave at the Winter Concert! I'm so very proud of them! I don't have a good picture from the actual performance so if you have one I'd really appreciate a digital copy. I do have some pictures from our morning rehearsal. I posted them on Twitter so you can follow me (@mrscuckovic) or go to the school's home page and scroll down on the Twitter feed. Congratulations to Jaxson, December's Student of the Month, for being an exemplary example of a very helpful little boy! So very helpful, in fact, that both myself and Madame Woytowich-Lucier chose him for the distinction! I'd like to wish everyone a very safe and fun vacation. Merry Christmas and may the New Year hold only an abundance of health, happiness and love for you and your family!

The concert will take place at 6:00pm on December 16th. Please drop your child off at the classroom after 5:30pm. We are singing about world harmony and so I am asking that your child be dressed to represent your heritage or home country. We want to celebrate and reflect the rich diversity in our classroom.
The dress rehearsal will take place at 1:15pm. I unfortunately have a long awaited medical appointment that afternoon but my daughter (Miss C) will be there to direct the class. Parents are welcome to attend this rehearsall. This lovely artwork was produced through a long process involving many steps. First, we taped the paper down to the desks and used masking tape to make the birch trees. With watered down paint, we gave the entire paper a blue wash and sprinkled it with Epsom salts while still wet. After it had dried, the salt was brushed off, leaving the mottled effect. The tape was carefully removed to reveal the trees. We used white paint to colour the trees, then some slightly tinted paint to create the shadow on the tree. We waited again for that to dry, then used white pastel crayon to draw in the moon, smudging it with our finger. Next, we used a very thin brush to paint in the black lines on the birch trees - and waited again. When that was dry, we used q-tips to gently and patiently fill in the gently falling snow. It was a lot of work, but I think you'll agree that the results are magnificent!
The large image shows our bulletin board, complete with some of our snowflakes. If you click on the smaller images, they will expand and give you a closer look at what your talented kid did! |
