It's one of those day when this Kindergarten teacher is happy to see that all of her hard work is bearing fruit! I have many literature kits which pair books with puppets, felt figures or (in this case) velcro figures for use on a felt board. The idea is that, after reading and discussing the book as a group, students will use the kit during their free choice time to retell and further explore the story. Usually, it ends up being a "free for all" with arguments, damaged materials, and totally unrelated activities! BUT LOOK AT THESE TWO!!! They took turns being the "reader" while the other worked the pieces to recreate the story. They were recalling details, characters, settings, dialogue. . . it was great! They were really building their emergent reader skills and were happy to stay at this activity for quite a while.

Mrs. Nilo had the great idea of planting some of our pumpkin seeds. We started them off in smaller containers and then before we knew it the sprouts had taken off! We then transferred them to larger containers and we'll take it from there. Mrs. Nilo is instituting an "Adopt a Sprout" program and the kiddos will be measuring and observing their sprout's progress.
