Today, Mrs. Nilo read the fun book "Pete's A Pizza" to the class. In this book, Pete's dad makes him into a pizza (just 'for pretend' as the kids would say). Afterwards, we had some friends act out the book. It was so funny!

Wow! Look at what Helen did - she wrote the numbers from one to one hundred! I'm impressed by how she organized them into decade "families" ( the twenties, thirties, etc.) to create a hundred chart. Way to go Helen!
The day we've been waiting for finally arrived! Here we are with our cool superhero friend Zero the Hero, here to help us celebrate 100 Day! Please visit the photo gallery on the site to see many, many more photos. Special thanks to Emilyn Anderi, a really good sport, wouldn't you say?
Well I thought I could pull a fast one on the kids by "fudging" the numbers over the weekend to push 100 Day back, but they caught on right away so I had to come clean! Because Zero the Hero goes to university and has a final exam tomorrow (Tuesday), we will be celebrating 100 Day on Wednesday the 9th instead. You know these superheroes - you have to work around their schedule!
As we continue to explore colours, we enjoyed a fun activity today which produced some very spectacular works of art! Step one: squeeze white glue out on stockboard to create an interesting design. Step two: cover the glue completely with table salt, being sure to completely saturate the glue. Step three: using a pipette, carefully drop coloured water onto the design. Voila! The kids watched in amazement as the colours followed the salted design, spreading and mixing to create their beautiful artwork! Other benefits can be found in this activity, such as fine motor dexterity (carefully dropping the water using a pipette) and small muscle strength (squeezing the glue out of the bottle). Unfortunately, this artwork does not really hold up well when dry, as the salt tends to fall off in clumps. It is the process - with all of its enjoyment and learning - that is the treasure here.
