Mr. Mortenson's grade six students shared some of their books with us today. The "big kids" wrote and illustrated their books themselves and did a great job introducing themselves, reading aloud and fielding questions and comments from the Kindergarten children. I was happy that the little ones were able to come up with actual questions using words like 'who', 'what', 'why', 'where', 'when' and 'how'! It's that end of the year satisfaction that I love so much, when I realize "Hooray! They 'get' it!"

We all enjoyed our Kindergarten pasta potluck immensely, and the pancake potluck was great - now it's our turn! The parents of Mrs. C.'s and Mrs. Nilo's class are asked to send in food for our final potluck on Friday June 20th. On the menu will be hotdogs (please note that they will ALL be halal), veggies, fruit and treats. Please watch your child's communication bag as I will be sending home a request for your contribution soon. I will also be requesting volunteers to help with preparation and cleanup on that day so please keep the date in mind and if you have some time to spend we'd really appreciate your assistance! Thanks!
Mrs. Nilo, always the bravest when it comes to crawly things, brought in some snails from the playground this morning. She placed them on the light table to see what would happen. Well, great interest and creativity ensued! The kids enjoyed creating obstacle courses and snail castles. Mrs. Nilo released the captives into the wild again, relatively unscathed, where they are no doubt reflecting upon their abduction by alien creatures!
What a nuisance dandelions are to adults! But to children, they are just beautiful. Today, three of my former students appeared at my door with lovely bouquets for me! I put them in some water, put out some paint and Q-tips, and waited to see what would happen. . . I was not disappointed!
. . . In an octopus' garden 'neath the waves!
Actually, the boys called these their "seashell gardens". Aren't they marvelous? |
