Congratulations to these students who have earned certificates for knowing their address (above) and phone number (below)! Double congratulations to Helen, Iris and Jocelyn who know both! Teaching your child his or her address and phone number is an important step in helping to keep him or her safe. Please practice at home every day, and soon all of the children will know both of these important pieces of information.

We are beginning to talk a lot about safety rules, recognizing emergencies and what to do about them, "stranger danger" and community helpers. In March, our SK friends will be going on a field trip to the Children's Safety Village. Please help your child to learn his or her full name, address and phone number - a very important safety measure! We have been working on 2D shapes and 3D solids, along with positional words such as 'on', 'under', 'beside', 'between', etc. We are exploring how to 'turn', 'flip' and 'slide' shapes. Here is a game that the kiddos enjoy. Meadow is sitting in front of Emily, who is giving instructions such as "Put the cylinder on top of the large red prism". When finished, the two compared their constructions and they were the same! That means Emily is great at giving directions and Meadow is great at listening to them! The two boys in the background are creating symmetrical constructions. One boy places a solid, and the other makes the construction symmetrical by adding the same solid on the other side, like looking in a mirror. I sure hope everyone stayed safe today! We had exactly half of our students, but it was "business as usual". Below we are acting out Jan Brett's story "The Mitten", about a boy named Nikki who drops his mitten in the snow. The forest animals all decide it would make a nice, warm home. Here's Mr. Mole crawling into the "mitten"! This story has a really fun ending. Next week, your child will be bringing home this story in picture form to retell to YOU! Retelling a story sequentially, with details and appropriate vocabulary, is an essential skill for learning to read.
