Nuela and Sejal love to play school! They've taken turns using our 'Class News' book for reference and have written news of their own.As a play on the word "No" in "November" we thought of all of the things you can't do in November. I thought we'd get a few ideas but -wow- the kids were on a roll! Look at all of the great ideas they came up with. They then used some of these ideas to write a poem. We posted them and entitled the bulletin board "November Blues". That sparked an art idea. We experimented with creating different shades of blue using blue, black and white paint. The finished pieces were the perfect addition to our board!I was certainly very proud of the children during today's Remembrance Day assembly. They were absolutely silent and completely respectful. Lily laid our class wreath for us. You can see many more pictures on the school website if you visit the Events page. If you're on Twitter, follow @JAMMustangs or @mrscuckovic and see what the school tweeted out today. How will you remember?Remembrance Day is almost here. We have been preparing for it in many ways, one of which is learning about WWII's 'Operation Manna', which dropped food to the starving people in the Netherlands. Canadians and the Dutch people have had a very special bond ever since, and we here in Windsor have a very special connection to this story! Ask your child about BadPenny, I hope that he/she can tell you what that special connection is! There are several good YouTube videos which tell Bad Penny's story. Here at school we have been reading the book A Bad Penny Always Comes Back. Today we broke into small groups and acted out parts of the story. Below is a picture of Jaxson, Keira and Mattie. Keira is Bad Penny and the other two are jubilant Dutch people watching the food bundles drop!
As part of our science unit on seasonal changes, we 'adopted' a tree and visited 'him' several times to observe and record the changes we saw. (I'm not sure how it was decided the tree is a 'he', nor how we ended up just calling it "Tree" as a proper name, but I think it's really cute!) To the left is a picture of our first visit to Tree. I chose this tree because it is a maple, so I thought it would get a lot of very brightly coloured leaves as the fall proceeded. Not so! The leaves turned yellow and fell off quite early, but we did make some interesting observations on our three visits. Now that Tree has dropped all of his leaves, we'll let him be for the winter and go see him again in the spring. |
